What a weekend it was… organizing a birthday party for kids is surely draining and a real test in parenting. Of course we all had fun. Luckily my eldest’s birthday fell on a Sunday. Getting the birthday gifts, new dresses, a custom made cake and running around like an insane person on steroids was what my experience was during the weekend. Of course, I had to also double up as the cameraman to cover the entire party while still remeinding the kids to not scream too loud.

Tips
Although I have always had fun going shopping with my eldest to shop for toys (nothing beats the pleasure of seeing that look on her face), I haven’t been very lucky in getting her to clean up her toys. It always looks like a warzone once she ha finished playing with her toys and turns her attention to the TV. My poor wife has to try and convince my daughter to pick up her toys and it always seems to be a battle she loses.

My wife and I had always wanted to go to the movies after a break of about 3 1/2 years (yes that’s how long we didn’t step into a movie theater). But with my eldest around, it didn’t seem like a good idea. But that was until I decided “it is time”. I can still remember that day quite vividly.

Tips
Well it’s always been a challenge getting my eldest daughter to finish her food or milk during feeding time. I’m sure a lot of Dads and Moms out there would agree with me. Especially with the distraction of the TV it gets really hard for most of us. I remember having to hurt myself trying to pull off a stunt like a circus clown once. Kids are getting smarter and it just looks like some of these traditional methods don’t work - no offense to Super Nanny.

Recipe
Being a dad is fun. And the best part is I get to experiment with my own recipes at home and on my kids. Well to be precise, just my eldest one as the younger one still needs her food to me smashed and mashed and… you get the drift. I always tend to experiment with what I can find in the kitchen. Here’s an interesting recipe that I “created” for dinner over the weekend. Turned out pretty good and it hardly took me any time.

It’s been almost 6 months since I got my Nintendo Wii - it was an anniversary present from my wife. Maybe she was trying to tell me something when I turned up with just a cake for our anniversary. But I really don’t remember much of what happened that day because I was busy picking up my jaw from the floor. I knew my wife was going to get me something but I really didn’t think it was going to be a Nintendo Wii. That was the most romantic night I spent - with my TV and the Nintendo Wii.

Maybe I just patted myself on my back a bit too soon. As a result of going to the mall in the afternoon, my daughter missed her afternoon nap. As I sat down to watch my favorite shows on TV in the evening, war broke out!

After all the convincing, my daughter and I made our way to the mall. Ground rules were already laid during the drive to the mall which lasted less than 20 minutes. Bribes comprising of chocolates and ice cream were offered in exchange for behavior which wouldn’t embarrass me.

Finally I convinced my wife that its time to get a pair of crocs for our 4 year old. No, it was not to make a fashion statement. But I have to say that since I got my own pair of crocs about 6 months ago I have never regretted it even for a single day. As I was looking for an excuse to show off what a discovery I had made, I noticed that my daughter’s shoes had discolored - from a dark blue to a shade darker. Hardly noticeable but it was good enough for me to get excited.
